A work Of Love In Progress

COME, MEET THE CHILDREN

Most of you are probably aware that we are no longer an "orphanage" but a daycare center. We are working with children of some of the most poverty-stricken families in the area, most of whom are field workers. Some of the children are from single-parent families, some with siblings, but all with a desire to live and to learn. We have watched these children grow and begin to bloom through Christian love, knowledge and understanding.

When most of them first came to us, they didn't know how to play, to share, to relate to parents or elders or to each other. One little boy came to us not knowing that he could move more than a few inches as he had been left in a small crib all day basically unattended. It took a few months but he has now experienced a whole new world. In some instances, the children were locked inside their tiny, unsanitary, make-shift housing all day while the parents worked.

These children come from a "survival of the fittest" background where only the strong prevail. So it's not uncommon to see them hit or kick one another when they feel their space is being invaded. Our staff has ever so patiently guided these little ones with lots of "TLC".

The children are picked up between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m., 5 days a week by our Mexican director, Servando and his wife, Martha, and returned back to their homes at 4:00 p.m. When they arrive here in the morning around 6 a.m., they are cleaned up and made ready for breakfast. After breakfast, the 4 to 6 year olds are dressed in their uniforms, given a morning snack, that they proudly carry in a lunchbox, and are walked to a local Preschool/Kindergarten by some of our staff. At noon, they are walked back here again for lunch. While the older ones are away, the staff is teaching the little ones to share, to play, to respect, and in some cases, to be potty-trained.

All of the children are receiving a Christian education as well. They are learning of the Lord, how to pray, and are now singing little hymns and Christian songs. It is our desire that all will come to know the Lord Jesus in a personal way.

What a blessing it is to be a small part of their lives. We have three groups of children and each group has its own "classroom" and therefore are separated by age. The babies range in age from 6 months to 2 years. The toddlers are 2 and 3 years of age. The kinder kids are 4 to 6 years of age. We pray that you'd like to become a part of our family by helping to sponsor a group of children or by sending a donation to the General Fund. All monetary gifts are tax-deductible and may be sent to the San Clemente address.

We invite you to come visit and meet our new family. We are very proud of them all and would love it if you could share in our joy. Your continued prayers and financial support are a blessing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

MORE CHANGES. . .

Last fall, we said "good-bye" to two of our friends and co-workers, Joyce Larson and Meg Connors. Joyce returned to the States to be near her family and minister wherever she is needed. Meg decided to leave our ministry and join another. We miss them and thank them for many years of dedicated service and wish them the very best in their new endeavors. Ruth-Ann Waterhouse has taken over their duties and responsibilities in Mexico and can be reached by  or by calling 011-52-616-166-2083.

HOUSE-BUILDING MINISTRY

Another outreach of Welcome Home is building houses for needy people. We desire to help those struggling to raise their families by assisting them in building a block house for $2,000 (USD).  Call or email Roger Katona if you are interested.

We have our site on a free hosting service in order to save money so as much of the donations as possible go to the children that we serve. As a result there are advertisements on the top of each page that are placed there by the hosting service, MCCA is not in control of these advertisements nor does it necessarily endorse or support the companies that advertise here. If you or someone you know would like to donate space to us on a web server that would not have such advertising please contact our or a board member.
